Contemporaries to covet in May – and giveaway!

Ahh, May! When Spring finally arrives and so does a boatload of great romance!

You know the drill. Every month I tell you about the contemporary romance novels coming out that I’m most looking forward to. One person who leaves a comment will win a $10 gift certificate for herself AND for the contemporary romance author she mentions. Details are below, but first, here are the books that’re rocking my world this month.

Somebody to Love by Kristan Higgins

Somebody to LoveAfter her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon’s Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns—a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father’s wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she’s not thrilled…even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.

Having to fend for herself for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist’s assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn’t the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn’t the only thing that needs a little TLC…

My two cents

This is a bit of a cheat, because Somebody to Love actually came out at the end of April, but I swear that when I downloaded my advance review copy at NetGalley, it said it was coming out on May 1st.

Somebody to Love is one of the best romance novels I’ve ever read. You can read my review – or, even better, go buy the book because it’s absolutely perfect.

Under Fire by Catherine Mann

Under FireA decorated hero, pararescueman Liam McCabe lives to serve. Six months ago, he and Rachel Flores met in the horrific aftermath of an earthquake in the Bahamas. They were tempted by an explosive attraction, yet parted ways. Still, Liam has thought about Rachel every day—and night—since.

Now, after ignoring all his phone calls for six months, Rachel has turned up on base with a wild story about a high-ranking military traitor. She claims no one but Liam can help her—and she won’t trust anyone else.

With nothing but her word and the testimony of a discharged military cop to go on, Liam would be insane to risk his career—even his life—to help this woman who left him in the dust.

My two cents

Back in December, I read the previous book in this series, Hot Zone, which made me an immediate Catherine Mann fan.

Under Fire continues the story of the brave pararescuemen who leap into danger to protect others, but it’s more than just an entertaining romantic suspense. This novel examines the difficuties in military relationships and the dangers that couples bravely face together.

Rescue Me by Rachel Gibson

Rescue MeShe’s 33, unmarried, and stuffed into a Bubble Yum pink bridesmaid dress. And the whole town wants to fix her up with anyone with a dental plan…

Who’s going to rescue Sadie Hollowell now?

Everyone in Lovett, Texas knows Sadie has always been a ‘notional’ kind of gal. She got a notion to leave town asap , and never visit her daddy (bless his heart). Now, she’s back and got the notion to invite a good-looking, hard-muscled, total stranger to her cousin’s wedding. Better a stranger than some of the losers she’s dated.

Vince Haven got his muscles the hard way—as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan. He’s staying in Lovett to visit his crazy aunt—the proprietor of the local Gas N Go. Before he can get the heck back out of the small town, his aunt makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Maybe he’ll stick around Lovett for a while. Maybe he’ll make a ‘go’ of the Gas N Go. Maybe he’ll rescue Sadie out of that pink dress!

My two cents

I haven’t read Rescue Me yet, but I’ve been looking forward to Vince’s story since I read Any Man of Mine – which features his sister Autumn – last year.

I loooove me some Rachel Gibson. She’s one of the authors whose books made me want to write contemporary romance. And she’s got TWO books out this month! I only highlighted one here, but the other is an e-book short, Crazy On You, and I suggest you go check it out!

Giveaway!

Answer at least one of the questions in bold below. By “contemporary romance” I mean romance between human beings set in the present day. It can be romantic suspense, inspirational, erotic, category-length or whatever.

I’ll choose one winner on Tuesday May 15th. That person will get a $10 gift certificate to the online book retailer of their choice, AND I’ll send the same to the author they mention.

If the winner mentions more than one author, I’ll ask her to choose which one gets the gift certificate.

This is open internationally.
