How fast can you read?

Here’s a cool online test to show you.

Apparently I read just under 300 words per minute, which is 19% faster than the average adult…but slower than the average 11th grader? I’m not sure how that works. It would take me around 33 hours to read War and Peace.

Take the test and let us know your score.

  1. Wow, I’m a slow reader & it would take me around 40 hours to read “War and Peace”!!! Since this test is in English, I don’t worry much, after all it’s not my first language & I would be much faster in reading Leo Tolstoy in it’s original language.

  2. My score was 271. That’s about right. I have to charge my kindle fire every day. ;-). Thus was kinda fun. I’m going to link to my granddaughter. She reads a LOT.

    1. Glad you liked it, TrishJ! Hope your granddaughter does too. And here’s hoping better batteries are invented soon! šŸ˜‰

  3. I only scored 234! :/ I used to be a lot faster. But I’m easily distracted lately…at least I got the questions right… šŸ˜‰ It’s no wonder I haven’t been able to read as much as I used to, among many other reasons, like having little boys, writing, and life interfering! lol Thanks for sharing, Kat. šŸ™‚

    1. I’m the same, Celia. I got to the end and realized I’d been distracted throughout the short time I was taking the test! When I got to the questions, I thought “Oh, crud! I didn’t know there’d be a test!”

  4. I was kind of surprised that I scored 462, especially since English is not my first language. I’ve always considered myself a slow reader, and I guess my commitment to reading at least 100 books a year in the last couple of years really helped improve my reading speed šŸ™‚

    1. Holy cow, Connie, that’s fantastic! And what a great commitment to make. My goal is 100 books for this year, but I’m lagging a little behind. Might have to learn how to speed read over Christmas. šŸ™‚

  5. I scored 410 but what amazed me was that I new the answers but didn’t think I did so I guess I did retain what I read, I just didn’t know it lol.
