Contemporaries to covet in August – & giveaway!

Those of you who’ve been following this blog for a while know that every month I tell you which contemporary romance novels I’m looking forward to, and I ask which new releases you can’t wait to read.

I’ll randomly choose one commenter to win a $10 gift certificate for herself AND for the contemporary romance author she recommends. More details on that below.

Ready, Freddy? Here are the August contemporary releases I can’t wait to read!

Close Enough to Touch by Victoria Dahl

Can a city girl make it in the wild, wild West?

Close Enough to TouchFor makeup artist Grace Barrett, Hollywood isn’t the land of golden opportunity. It’s the land of difficult divas, cheating boyfriends and unemployment. So when her great-aunt offers her a free place to stay in Jackson, Grace thinks she’ll spend a little time in the sticks to figure out her life, and then move somewhere exciting to live out her dreams. But it turns out that there are a few more thrills in this small town than Grace was expecting….

Cole Rawlins is a rugged Wyoming cowboy born and bred. Yet he can’t help but be drawn to the fascinating big-city girl who moves in across from him. He wants to get close enough to Grace to see past her tough facade, but if he does, she might see the real Cole. The one with a Hollywood history gone bad. As they discover a sizzling attraction, it becomes harder for him to keep his demons at bay-and those fires from long ago may burn them both.

They’ll need more than scorching-hot passion to make this opposites-attract affair work. But if they can learn to trust one another enough to reveal their secrets, they just might have a chance at forever.

My two cents

Victoria Dahl’s got a new series out! Victoria Dahl’s got a new series out! AAAAHHH!!!

In case it’s not clear, I LOVE Victoria Dahl. Her contemporary romance is just the right mix of funny and hot. Close Enough to Touch is the start of a new contemporary series set in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and I can’t wait to read it.

Call Me Wild by Robin Kaye

She doesn’t know a single thing about relationships…

Call Me WildUnemployed sportswriter Jessie James plans to make a killing writing a bestselling romance novel. She’s never read one, but really, how hard can it be? Moving cross-country to a borrowed house in Idaho, Jessie starts her research with the first gorgeous guy she runs into…

Luckily, he knows everything…

Sports doctor Fisher Kincaid notices Jessie right away–the transplanted Easterner sticks out like a sore thumb in the small town. When he discovers she’s researching attraction and romance, he graciously offers himself as a test subject. That’s when everything starts to go wrong, and they both find out how much they need a few good lessons in love…

My two cents

I’ve read a couple of Robin Kaye’s previous books – including Wild Thing, which is also about the wild men of Idaho – and loved them. They’re fun, fast and sexy, and I’ve been looking forward to Call Me Wild since reading Wild Thing in December.

Giveaway!

Answer at least one of the questions in bold below. By “contemporary romance” I mean romance between human beings set in the present day. It can be romantic suspense, inspirational, erotic, category-length or whatever.

I’ll choose one winner on Tuesday August 14th. That person will get a $10 gift certificate to the online book retailer of their choice, AND I’ll send the same to the author they mention.

If the winner mentions more than one author, I’ll ask her to choose which one gets the gift certificate.

This is open internationally.

Questions:
What contemporary romance novel(s) being released in August are you looking forward to? Have you read anything by the authors I mentioned? Which of their books do you like best?

  1. I’m looking forward to Christie Craig’s “Blame It on Texas” (Hotter in Texas #2). I have read the first book “Don’t Mess with Texas” & enjoyed it a lot. I guess you can call it romantic suspense, but it’s very fun & light read.

  2. I like Victoria Dahl, too. All of her books — contemporary and historical — are such fun to read but my favorite is probably “Lead Me On”. I am going to try a new-to-me author this month — Molly O’Keefe. “Can’t Buy Me Love” had a lot of good buzz so I am going to try it along with her new release from the same series, “Can’t Hurry Love”.

  3. It’s going to be a great month for contemporaries. I just saw a write-up for a new one by Christie Barth called Planning For Love that’s about a wedding planner, so that sounds like a fun one. Lisa Kleypas’ Dream Lake is coming out this week and I know I’ll be buying it, and I’ve enjoyed both Victoria Dahl and Robin Kaye in the past so I’ll be checking those out also.

  4. I am so excited for Victoria Dahl’s new series. I LOVE the Donovans. I too just downloaded Christi Barth’s Planning for Love and I’ve heard great things about Molly O’Keefe. And now that I’m reading the comments here, I find that Christie Craig has a new one out too. My TBR pile is going to explode this month.

  5. I like Victoria’s books and am also looking forward to Susan Andersen’s latest, so either one of the July releases would be great.

Always happy to see this contest, as I read 99% contemps.

  6. August release? I have two authors in mind and both are a must-have: Lisa Kleypas’ Dream Lake and Sarah Mayberry’s Within Reach. I love those authors, a lot. And what makes those books special is because the hero names are Alex and Michael, both are my favorite male’s names. I know it sounds silly, but what can I say. *lol

  7. Oh, and I forgot to mention. No, I haven’t read anything by the authors you mentioned, although I have Victoria Dahl’s Tumble Creek Series and Robin Kaye’s Wild Thing, but I haven’t read them yet. I’m afraid I have the tendency to become a book hoarder.

  8. I’m looking forward to One Night Rodeo by Lorelei James. I love her new series! She can’t write fast enough for me.
I’m also looking forward to Seven Sexy Sins by Serenity Woods. I’ve enjoyed several novellas by her and I’m glad she publishes with Samhain now.
Victoria Dahl has been a hit or miss for me in the past. But this sounds really exciting. I mean, ther hero is a cowboy. Can’t be bad, right? 🙂

    Thank you for the giveaway.

  9. I will have to go with Emily March’s Nightingale Way, I have been hooked of this series from the beginning.

  10. I’m looking forward to Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas. I haven’t read any books by the authors you mentioned.

  11. I’m excited about Victoria’s upcoming release, too. I also enjoy her historicals. I would recommend HelenKay Dimon’s “Copy That.”

  12. I just got Dream Lakeby Lisa Kleypas and Forever and a Day by Jill Shalvis, one of my favorite authors. I’ve not read the authors that you’ve mentioned.

  13. I am looking forward to reading The Cowboy and the Princess by Lori Wilde. I don’t think I have read any books by the authors you have listed but I will look for them.

  14. I guess the contemporary book I am looking forward to the most is The SIren (Tiffany Reisz, released on 7/31 so I don’t know if you count that as an August release or not). If not, I am also really looking forward to Eve Berlin’s new book TEMPTATIONS EDGE

    1. June, I just finished reading The Siren and it was amazing. Tiffany will be here at the end of August doing an interview and giving away a copy. 🙂

  15. I’m looking forward to reading Drean Lake by Lisa Kleypas. Although it has a ghost in it, it’s still not considered paranormal.

  16. Let’s see…is there not a book I’m looking forward to?!
I can’t wait to read Heron’s Cover by Carla Neggers, Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas, The Great Escape by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (July release) and Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood. I can count on these authors to keep me entertained. Now that you’ve mentioned it, I also have Close Enough to Touch on my radar.

Whew good thing Summer nights tend to be longer 😉

  17. Looking forward for Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas and Softly At Sunrise by Maya Banks. I’ve read almost all Lisa Kleypas novels (she is my favorite author) and some books from Maya Banks. I love LK’s historical rather than her contemporary, but Blue Eye Devil is LK’s contemporary I like best. As for Maya Banks, I adore her KGI series, my favorite is the first book, The Darkest Hour.
